What we do

As of August 2011 the Rose of Sharon Organisation in Harare, Zimbabwe comprises an orphanage caring for about 60 children from the age of 3 to 18 and they live in four houses/homes in and near Harare.  The secondary school caters for about 70 children at present of which 30 come from the Rose of Sharon Orphanage.

In Ireland we are dedicated to raising funds to support the activites of the Rose of Sharon School and Orphanage who depend on volunteer contributions in order to survive.

This year, apart from sending funds raised at the Enniskerry Gallery Christmas Gift Shop, we were fortunate enough to be awarded a GRANT from the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION FOR IRELAND whose purpose is to connect donors with deserving projects.  The Grant of €5,000 has enabled Fatima Maruta the founder of Rose of Sharon to start developing Lifeskills projects which will give the children leaving the Orphanage some vocational training which will help them make their way in life.  A chicken project is now up and running and the chicken meat not only feeds the children but earns income for the Orphanage as part of the production is sold.  The AIM is to make the Rose of Sharon Project as self financing as possible.

Every little bit helps and we thank all of you who have helped or contributed so far and we hope that you will continue to do so at this still extraordinarily difficult time in Zimbabwe.  We had hoped that the country might have been well on the way to recovery by now but, tragically, this is not the case and the situation is as bad as ever.
